Good Governance is the cornerstone of Rwanda’s rebirth after 1994 Genocide against Tutsi
The Ag. Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Governance Board, Dr. Usta Kaitesi, has underlined that Good governance and transformational leadership have been the key building blocks of the country’s reconstruction in the aftermath of the Genocide against Tutsi.
She made the remarks on Wednesday 11 April 2019 as RGB staff paid tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi at Gisozi memorial site.
Rwanda Governance Board has the broad mandate to promote the principles of good governance. Therefore this visit to Gisozi memorial site was carried out in order to help RGB to understand the role of governance in both the destruction and reconstruction of the country.
“The history of Governance in Rwanda reflects two sides. One the one hand, bag governance that destroyed the nation through practicing and sowing seeds of discrimination that culminated into the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. On the other hand, good governance that, in the aftermath of the genocide, became the cornerstone in rebuilding the country and re-uniting its people.” Said Dr. Usta Kaitesi
Dr. Usta Kaitesi reiterated that understanding the history of the country remains core for RGB staff to uphold the principles of good governance that they are mandated to promote including unity, rule of law, citizen centeredness and accountability.
At Gisozi memorial site rest over 250,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. The memorial serves as a centre for remembrance, education and documentation.
