RGB commits continued support to empower media fraternity

Rwanda Governance Board has reaffirmed its commitment to support Rwanda Journalists Association (ARJ) to enable it play an important role in enhancing professionalism in the media sector in Rwanda.

Dr. Kaitesi Usta, the Chief Executive Officer made the commitment during the awarding ceremony of winners of Development Journalism Awards (DJA) 2021 held in Kigali Serna Hotel on 18 May 2021.

Addressing the audience during the award handing over ceremony, Dr. Kaitesi Usta congratulated the winners for their efforts and recognized the great role played by the media by keeping the public informed during covid-19 period.

“During Covid-19 period, we have all depended on media to get information which helped as to survive. I therefore congratulate the winners of DJA 2021 for their dedication to their job even during such a difficult period and a thank the media in general for their impressive work in fighting the pandemic” said Dr .Kaitesi

She also emphasized the need for enhancing professionalism in so that it can continue to play its rightful role in shaping the society and national development.

Development Journalism Awards 2021 also attracted several including public institution, civil society organizations and development partners’ institutions who sponsored the event and gave awards to winners in different categories.

Dr. Usta Kaitesi acknowledged the contribution of different partners who sponsored DJA 2021 saying that their partnership with media sector is key to improve service delivery in their respective areas of intervention.

Development Journalism Award is an annual event organized by the Rwanda Journalists Association in collaboration with RGB with the objective to promote excellence and professionalism in media sector in Rwanda. This year, winners in different categories of the competition were announced on 3 May 2021 as media fraternity in Rwanda celebrated the World Press Freedom Day
