On Wednesday 20 March 2024, the RGB Deputy CEO Dr. USENGUMUKIZA Félicien attended an opening ceremony of the 11th International Conference of Africa Evaluation Association (AfrEA) held in Kigali, themed “Technology and Innovation in Evaluation Practice in Africa: The last nail on coffin of participatory approaches”

In his opening remarks, Dr. USENGUMUKIZA appreciated the conference organisers which he said will create an opportunity of facilitating critical discussions, knowledge sharing and collaboration among participants as well as strengthening the partnership between Africa Evaluation Association.

He said that the choice of the theme of this conference as Technology and Innovation in Evaluation Practice in Africa, came at the right moment where the world is being driven by information and communication technology in various sectors.

“Today, we are witnessing the emerging of artificial intelligence as a tool enabling the acceleration of socio-economic development in different domains of our life. Africa should not be left behind in this technological revolution” he said.

“The African Evaluation Association can only be successful in achieving its objectives through the development and implementation of a robust monitoring and evaluation framework that assures accountable governance and evidence-based decision making” he added.

The African Evaluation Association (AfrEA) was founded in 1999 in response to a growing demand for information sharing, advocacy, and advanced evaluation capacity building in Africa. With the Secretariat in Accra, Ghana, AfrEA serves as an umbrella body for the national Voluntary Organisations for Professional Evaluation (VOPEs) in Africa, individual and institutional members.
