RGB with its partners donate cows to the survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi
On Thursday, 5 June 2025, in Mbazi Sector, Huye District, the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), in partnership with its development partners—including the Rwanda Civil Society Organisations Platform, the Rwanda Inter-Religious Council (RIC), and the Network of International NGOs in Rwanda—donated 11 cows to 11 vulnerable families of survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The event was attended by local leaders from Huye District, as well as representatives of IBUKA and AVEGA. It aimed to demonstrate continued love and support for genocide survivors during the ongoing 100-day commemoration period.
Representatives of local authorities and IBUKA commended RGB and its partners for their generous support. They emphasized that such initiatives reflect good governance—one that prioritizes the well-being and dignity of its citizens.
On behalf of RGB, Mr. Mbungiramihigo Peacemaker, Media Policy Analyst who represented RGB in this event stated that solidarity goes beyond remembrance, instead it requires action. He highlighted that the donation of the cows symbolizes the collaborative effort of government institutions, civil society, and the private sector in restoring dignity, rebuilding lives, and helping survivors regain hope.
Mr. Mbungiramihigo encouraged the beneficiaries to care for the cows responsibly so that they may reproduce and provide sustainable benefits. He added that over time, this will enable the recipients to "pass on the gift" by donating calves to other families who are still in need—thus creating a ripple effect of support and empowerment.
Every year RGB and its development partners join hands in commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against Tutsi both in commemoration activities and donating support to the vulnerable families of survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
